Bought this to add to my Double Ukulele Bass/Baritone gig bag when extra space needed to carry stuff to a gig
It is a very good product and it arrives on time. I am completely satisfied with the bag and the delivery.
I got my Fusion guitar bags 5-6 years ago. I love them. I've always wanted the large Fuse-on backpack to use with them. They're not cheap, but for the unique benefit of their function, I thought it was worth it. Easily. After finally ordering it, I admit I'm very pleased with the quality. My small issue is the fastening system. The velcro works, but feels clumsy. Almost like the gig bag and backpack were already made and someone said, "how about some stiff velcro that's especially awkward when you use the backpack alone?" My large issue is the internal dimensions of the backpack itself. The impression is that it's a real backpack. But it's really shaped more like a turtle shell. The dimensions of the back wall of the backpack are fine, but the outside wall is shorter and narrower. So imagine a turtle shell, or the bottom half of a pyramid. So I paid like $170 for a "large" backpack with a much smaller interior capacity than one expects...in a "large" backpack...for $170... Overall, I LOVE the gig bags and was excited for the Fuse-on bag. I think it's an amazing idea, but the size of this "large" backpack is disappointing. If you got a shoebox the listed dimensions of the interior of the backpack, it wouldn't come close to fitting.
This bag is great for an add-on to the guitar bag, but the ergonomics aren't fantastic so I probably wouldn't opt to use it as my main backpack. Definitely recommend it if you need extra space for a micro-amp or other larger items though! My Yamaha THR10II fit's in it perfectly with a bit of room to spare. Definitely not as much storage volume as many regular pack-packs, but that does help keep it relatively thin so you don't have an extra metre of width attached to your back when this is added to the guitar gig bag.
If you only intend to use this backpack as an add-on for your other Fusion bag(s) than this is a perfect option. It seems solidly built, well organised and it looks very nice in my opinion. The backpack also comes with a laptop sleeve which feels unnecessary. One thing I’d like to see though is a rain cover. It says that the upper is waterproof but I still feel uneasy carrying unprotected electronic devices if it rains heavily.
However if you intend to carry this backpack on your shoulders often you’re going to be disappointed. The carrying straps are not designed well at all. They are so wide that they won’t sit on the shoulders properly. It feels like they’re going to slip off (this problem gets worse if the backpack is only lightly packed) and they also restrict the arm movement. They are wider than the straps on any other commuting backpack, wider than the straps on my Fusion Urban gig bag I own and even wider than those on my trekking backpacks.
I also think the backpack is rather pricey.
If I’d only be using this as an add-on item I’d be giving this item 4 stars (-1 star on account of the price and the lack of rain cover). But since the uncomfortable straps make the backpack barely usable I can’t give this backpack a positive review even though I’d like to. Moreover the customer support was fast and very helpful.
If the straps ever get redesigned I’ll buy another one and change my review.
